Music

Bethany is widely recognized for its extensive music program.

Here at Bethany, our mission is to grow deeper in our relationship with Jesus Christ through music and singing.  As students move through Preschool to Middle School, they are offered a wide variety of music opportunities. In Preschool, students learn to explore their bodies and voices through folk songs and praise & worship. Our Kindergarten through 5th Grade students learn to play a variety of musical instruments including rhythm sticks, xylophones, bells, percussion instruments, and more in music classes. Kindergarten through 5th grade also participate in choir and perform at many concerts throughout the school year.

Drama Department

Bethany’s Middle School Drama Department stages a Jr. Broadway performance each year.

In Elementary school, students grades 2-5 attend drama class once per week. In this class, they learn basic theatre vocabulary, and how to use their voices, bodies, and faces to communicate on stage. Students get the opportunity to practice speaking and moving in front of their classmates so they can grow in confidence and feel empowered to present in school wide chapel services.

Middle School students have the option to explore a variety of theatre electives, both on stage and behind the scenes. Past options have included: Studio Theatre (a class devoted to the technical arts), Improvisation, Acting and the Musical Performance Class. In the spring, middle school students in the drama, art, and music departments bring all their gifts together in producing and performing a musical. Students who would like to perform have the opportunity to audition, and participate in the rehearsal process, where they will receive real time feedback and coaching on their acting and singing. Other students may opt to learn about and execute the technical elements of the show (Set, props, lighting, run crew, etc.). This collaborative model allows students to view the whole process of mounting a musical as a team effort- with the backstage work being just as critical as what’s happening on stage. Shows produced in the past include: Alice @ Wonderland, Shrek the Musical, Tarzan, The Lion King, The Wizard of Oz, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bye Bye Birdie and Seussical.
