Bethany offers an excellent visual and performing arts program from the preschool level through eighth grade.

Our stand-alone art room is a hub of creativity and the source of the student-created masterpieces that visitors instantly notice as they walk through our school's hallways. Preschool art projects are created in the classroom, while students enjoy twice-weekly art classes beginning in Kindergarten. Instruction is provided in a wide variety of mediums and areas, such as:

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Print Making
  • Clay
  • Portrait Study
  • Art Appreciation (includes history and critiques)
  • Paper Mache
  • Paper Sculpture
  • 3-D Perspective
  • Styrofoam Sculpture
  • Pen and Ink
  • Weaving
  • Assemblages
  • Collage

In addition, our elementary students are able to take advantage of our after school enrichment art club. Each session is based on a particular theme and includes several projects. Past themes have included everything from Russian art history to animal-inspired art.

Bethany is widely recognized for its extensive music program.

Our preschool students are involved in choral music performances, with a formal choral program beginning at the kindergarten level. Sight-reading is introduced in the second grade and is reinforced throughout the students' school career. At the upper elementary level, an honors chorale is available to interested students. Several widely anticipated concerts take place every year, with our weekly chapels providing additional opportunities to showcase our students' talents.

On the instrumental side, BCS preschoolers gain experience with such early childhood instruments as sticks, bells, shakers, hand-held drums, wood blocks, scrapers, castanets, and scarves. All third-grade students learn to play the recorder, and boomwhackers are a popular component of our 4th- and 5th-grade instrumental music program.

In addition to its regular and elective music classes, Bethany has extracurricular music instruction in the form of its unique strings program, which offers both private and group violin, and on-campus piano instruction.

Middle School Drama Department

Bethany’s Middle School Drama Department stages a Broadway-style production every year.

All students in Grades 6-8 are eligible to audition; rehearsals usually begin after Christmas break and are held after school until the performances in late spring. Past productions, including The Lion King, Annie, The Wizard of Oz, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory,You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Bye Bye Birdie, 100 Years of Broadway, Seussical, and Alice in Wonderland, have proved to be tremendously popular community-wide events. Bethany's small size ensures that students interested in the performing arts have an opportunity to shine on stage and gain valuable experience prior to moving on to high school theater.
